He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Florene (Hockenbrock); his sons, Max Jr. (Wanda) of Grantville and James (Cathy) of Lancaster; and his brother Bill of Carlisle. He was also cherished by 5 grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
