He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Vicky Key (Hanner); his daughter Amber Reed (Key); his son-in-law Andy Reed; his grandchildren, Tyler, Chip and Nya; and his sisters, Bobby Key, Sr. (Joyce Key), Brenda Barrow (Arnold Barrow) and Patsy Joyce (Gary Joyce).

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations made in John's name to Burnetts Chapel UMC or the Randolph County Honor Guard.
