He was predeceased by: his parents, Ignatz Gaul and Mary Kish Gaul; and his sister Louise Dobi. He is survived by: his wife Karolina Gaul; his children, Daniel Gaul (Cynthia) of Beaver Falls, Tom Gaul (Betty) of Slippery Rock and Jodi Pensy of Ellwood City; and his sisters, Alice Rossi of North Carolina, Mary Ann Vanmeter of North Carolina and Eleanor Pratt of Ellwood City. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
