He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Cynthia Hurst (Stumpf); his parents, Weaver Hurst and Ruth Hurst (Steffy); his brother Daryl Hurst; his daughter Amanda; his grandchildren, Anthony and Jaeda; his nieces, Patty Roye and Tammy Sebastian; and his sister Debra Shirk. He was also cherished by his wife, family, friends and beloved cats.

“David and I shared the stage 17 years in Laurel Dance Company's production of the Nutcracker. He was Grandpa opposite my Grandma a few times but is better known for his depiction of Drosselmyer. David was quiet, but when he spoke, you better pay attention. You never knew what profound words or one-liner jokes he might share. He was also gentle and loved his family, especially his grandkids. It breaks my heart he is no longer with us. So sorry for your loss and especially at this time of year.”
