He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Smolskis and Mary Smolskis; and his siblings, Isabella, Helen Smolskis, Martha Wagner, Alex, Vince and Tony Smolskis.
He is survived by: his son John Sr. (Ellen); his grandchildren, John Smolskis Jr. (Rebecca), Michelle Smolskis, Victoria Smolskis, Samantha Simonson (Jaime) and Matthew Smolskis; and his great grandchildren, Justin, Madison, Hunter Smolskis, Mackenzie Calvey, Delani, Jaxon Solon, Connor, Aubrie and Olivia Simonson.
