He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy N. Upton and Jean Marcella Upton (Butler); his son Roy L. Upton II; and his sisters, Mary Jean Smitley, Beverly Hibbard, Barbara Upton and Wanda Bigam.
He is survived by: his wife Debra L. Upton (Hayes); his sons, Richard L. Upton and Ryan L. Upton of Chester, VA; his brothers, William Upton of Fairchance, Larry Upton and Ronald "Pete" Upton of Perryopolis; and his siblings-in-law, Robert "Uncle Bob" Smitley, Steven Bigam and Cheryl Mozeik (Kenneth). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
