He was predeceased by: his parents, Edmund A. Thompson, Jr. and Harriett B. Thompson. He is survived by: his spouse Vicki Lee Thompson; his children, Justin Thorpe Thompson (Carrie) and Jaime Rae Thompson; his siblings, Katherine Wiley (John) and Edmund Andy Thompson, III (Kathleen); and his grandchildren, Campbell Cole Thompson and Savannah Leigh Thompson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
