He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Richards (Daly); his parents, Otto Richards and Dorothy Mangan Richards; and his son-in-law Delbert Hinkle. He is survived by: his children, William Richards (Joanne), Kathryn Hinkle (David), Julie Musante (Thomas), Anne Morris (Michael), Mark Richards (Lorraine) and Mary Monica (James); his grandchildren, Jonathan, Mark, Adam, Brian, Tom, Grace, Kate, Matt, Andrew, Erin and Michael; his great grandchildren, Kathryn, Alex, Adeline and Merritt; and his sister Joyce Trombley.
