She was predeceased by: her husband John Ward Gates; her parents, Charles Stockhausen and Elizabeth Haring; and her siblings, Charles, Louise and Charlotte.
She is survived by: her sons, John (Victoria) and Robert (Satoko). She is also survived by grandchildren, two granddaughters and three grandsons.
