She was predeceased by: her parents, Salvatore Castelli and Gaetana Castelli; her spouse Benedetto "Ben" Scalia; her daughter Patricia Scalia; her siblings, Connie Romeo and Thomas Castelli; and her great grandchild Adelyn Scalia.
She is survived by: her children, Maria Scalia Milianes (Bill), Ginny Scalia, Ben Scalia (Jean) and Tom Scalia (Sonya); her grandchildren, Nicholas Milianes, Courtney Malloy, Jennifer Schray, Annie Kate Wallace, Benjamin Scalia, Will Reeves, Matt Scalia, Nina Zerby and Kacey Gmerek; and her great grandchildren, Charlotte, Cole, Bridget, Matilda and Thea.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Mass be celebrated in Joan's honor.
