He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Paul and Eleanor Bate Rawlings (Hilpert). He is survived by: his wife Josephine Rawlings (Rimmel); his grandsons, Kane Hixon, Gage Griffin and Reid Griffin; his great grandchildren, Garrett Griffin and Kaeden Hixon; his sister Ethel Richards of Mentor, Ohio; his daughter Jamie Griffin; and his brothers, Thomas Bate, Sr. and Ralph Bate. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and many friends, neighbors and co-workers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

“I had the pleasure of working with Jim for many years at Emerald. He was always at his best no matter what the job was. I especially remember how we would, along with about 10 others stop at Vera's lounge on Fridays after 2nd shift and have wings. Haven't seen Jim since the Emerald days but thought of him often and I know he'll be missed by many. RIP Jim, you were a great man !!!”
