He was predeceased by: his sons, Mark and Steven; and his brother Thomas Bender. He is survived by: his wife Jeannette K. Bender (Stricker); his children, Barry Jr. and Amy L. Sweger; his grandchildren, Dylan and Rachel; and his daughter-in-law Nikki Bender. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and, brothers and sisters-in-law.
