He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse E. P. and Ruth E. Burns (Holt). He is survived by: his wife Janet Burns (Kirchhof) of Spring City; his son Bryan Douglas Burns (Suzanne) of Haymarket, VA; his grandchildren, Whitney Elizabeth Burns, Kellie Suzanne Burns and Jackson E. H. Burns; and his siblings, Bruce L. Burns (Norma) and Barbara Jean Urner (David).
