He was predeceased by: his parents, Owen Aukema and Henrietta Aukema (Huizinga); and his brother-in-law John Kuperus. He is survived by: his wife Anna Mae Jaeger; his children, Aaron Aukema (Christina) and Corrie Cieslukowski (Brian); and his siblings, Annette "Babe" Kuperus of Dorr, MI, Dorothy Valkema (Sam) of Wantage, NJ, Charles "Chuck" Aukema of Iowa City and Bruce Aukema (Renee) of Martin, MI.
