He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schuman and Edna Mae Toms Schuman; and his siblings, Everett, Earl, Fred Schuman and Myrtle Appel.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Oakley Schuman; his children, John (Becky Schuman), Ronald (Cheryl Schuman), Orvis Jr. (Teresa Schuman), Walter Schuman of Damascus, Dale Roche, Chris Lohr (Randy) of Callicoon, Penny Musso (Patrick) of Kadosha, NY, Kelly Crawson (Timothy) of Long Eddy, NY and Kerry Wilcox of Damascus; and his sister Katherine Schuman of Honesdale. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren.
