He is survived by: his significant other Helen Schwerin; his children, Erin and Eric Vey; his grandchildren, Ethan, Sammy, Joanna, Silas and Gwen; his sister Debbie Penn (Bill); his nephews, Jared and Josh Penn; and his pet Lily.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Fred's name to The Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh.
