He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Austin and Florence Mae Mason Nicholson; his wife Karla Sterbutzel Nicholson; and his siblings, Boyd, Ernest, Domer, Dolly, Gilbert, Clyde Donald, Wade, Grant and Glenn Nicholson.

He is survived by: his daughters, Kathleen Ausec (David) of Winder, GA, Amy Grote (Raymond) of Connellsville and Julie Turbide (Andre) of Russell, PA.; and his grandchildren, Adam Korinek (Amy), Matthew Foreman (Jillian Taylor Weldy), Andrew Bender (Amanda), Timothy Bender (Leslie), Dr. Daniel Bender (Molly Brennan), Benjamin Simon, Megan Simon, Alexandre Turbide and Emilienne Turbide. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Brooks Funeral Home - Connellsville (111 E Green St, Connellsville, PA 15425).
