She was predeceased by : her parents, George Ellison and Nellie Roberts Ellison; her husband George H. Nelson; her adoptive father Nevin Carman; her brother John Ellison; her half-sister Connie Sekerak Hicks; and her son-in-law Allen Shuttleworth.

She is survived by : her children, Eric Nelson of Meadville, Anne Shuttleworth of Meadville, Dr. Donna Nelson (Jake) of Manassa, CO and Joan Nelson (Steve) of Concord, NH; her grandchildren, Kim Shay (Daniel) and Jacob Nelson Hall; her stepgrandsons, Greg Shuttleworth (Amanda), Adam Shuttleworth (Erica) and Matt Shuttleworth; her great grandchild Tanner Shay; and her stepgrandsons, Luke, Addison, Taylor, Sam and Shalynn Shuttleworth.
