He was predeceased by: his parents, John J. Smeed and Elizabeth Smeed (Gordon); his sister Ruth Dixon; and his nephew John David Smeed II. He is survived by: his wife Linda Smeed (Metzger); his daughters, Mickey Meyers (Travis) and Becky Smeed; his grandchildren, Oliver, Kya and Eleanor Meyers; his siblings, John Smeed (Susan), Vinco and Linda Miller; his brother-in-law Dave Dixon (Vinco); his son-in-law Travis; and his best buddy Pepper.
