He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schmitt and Catharine Wickenheiser Schmitt; and his brothers, Leonard and William Schmitt. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Jean Good Schmitt of Columbia; his children, George, Jr. (Pamela Schmitt) of Lancaster, Bill Schmitt of Columbia, Marg (Tony Shelley) of Columbia, Eugene (Angela Schmitt) of Columbia and Mary Schmitt of Columbia; and his grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Erin, Jordan, Joshua, Jarret and Anthony.
