He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph F., Sr. and Lena Butera (Monastero); his children, Joseph F. Butera, III (Barbara) of Downingtown and Lenora Chiccarine (late Samuel, Jr.) of Collegeville; his grandchildren, Nicole Chiccarine (Daniel Miller), Martine Quinn (Ryan), Jennelle Stevenson (Ryan) and Stefanie Nelligan (James); and his sister Margaret Schnable.
