He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schell and Margaret Schell (Buck). He is survived by: his wife Jodi L. Schell (Rowles); his children, James P. Schell II, Janine M. Coble (Zach) and Jessica R. Nelson (James); his grandchildren, Logan Coble, Jillian Nelson and Juliette Nelson; his sister Katherine Ann Schell-Smith (Michael); and his nieces and nephews, Kirslyn Schell-Smith and Kennedy Schell-Smith.
He also volunteered at the American Cancer Society.
