He was predeceased by: his parents, George Welty and Helen Carns (Haney); and his sister Judith Jones. He is survived by: his wife Carol Ann Carns (Bumbarger); his children, Samuel Carns Jr. (Laura) of Warsaw, IN, Matthew A. Carns (Sally) of Greenbelt, MD, Susan C. Cottongim (Jeff) of Salisbury, MD, Ann Michele Hoopsick (Dave) of Colonial Heights, VA and Paul A. Carns (Julie) of Osceola, IN; and his sisters, Nancy Potts of Clearfield, Rebecca Lawhead (Terry) of Enola, Martha Brillon of Foster, RI and Melissa Carns of New Smyrna Beach, FL.. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; one great grandson.
