He was predeceased by: his parents, Maro Smith and Jessie Smith (Stringfellow). He is survived by: his wife Iva Smith (Pilkie); his children, Michael Smith (Judy), Edward, Thomas and Samuel Smith; his stepchildren, Roger Martin (Maria) and Anita Wand (David); and his brothers, Dale and Jerry Smith. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
