He was predeceased by: his parents, William B. Smathers and Lulabelle Smathers (Allilo); his former wife Esther T. Helmheckel; and his siblings, Jack Smathers, Joanne Hultquist and Delores.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Jean; his children, Christine Bryan (Timothy) of Westminster, William "Bill" (Beth) of Clarion, Marlene Brandt (Paul) of Farmville, Lenore Smathers of Clarion, Gregory "Greg" (Brenda) of Clarion and Rhonda McMahan of Massillon, Ohio.; his grandchildren, Alisha Peterson (Scott) of Westminster, Andrew Bryan of Thornton, Kerry Whitmoyer (Kurt) of Spotsylvania, Kristen Smathers of Clarion, Megan Morris (Eric) of Midland, Molly Smathers of Chambersburg, Brian J. Whren (Meagan) of Clarion, Cody Racchini (Ashley) of Ducansville, Steven Smathers of Pittsburgh, Jimmy Smathers of Clarion, Riley McMahan, Cassidy McMahan and Shane McMahan of Massillon, Ohio.; his great grandchildren, Jordan Fisher, Grayson, Alexis Peterson of Colorado, Kelton, Keefer Whitmoyer of Virginia, Emma, Ivey, Macie Morris of North Carolina, Bailey, Drew, Cole, Eliza Jane Whren of Clarion and Rocco Racchini of Duncansville; and his sister Kay Neely (Blake) of Knox.
The funeral home will have social distancing protocols in place and strongly recommends those who are attending to wear masks.
