He is survived by: his nephew Bob Adams of Van Voorhis; his wife Terry Chilzer; his children, Jeremiah Chilzer (Camille) of Charleroi, Shawna Griese (Tony) of Donora and Elana Chilzer (Bjorn Sahm) of Bentleyville; his sisters, Linda Chilzer of Monongahela and Mary Ann Adams of Donora; and his grandchildren, Lexi Griese (Spencer Allen), Jasmine Griese and Zoey Chilzer.

“Chuck and Judy Harvey send our sincere condolences to John's family. We were able to benefit from John's excellent painting on our commercial building in West Newton about 25 years ago. Located on Main Street, many people saw his work and asked for his name and phone number. He not only painted our building but at my church, the First United Methodist Church and other houses. John was always diligent, reasonable and very professional. We were fortunate to know John.”
