He was predeceased by: his parents, Irvin Burkholder and Ruth Burkholder (Wingert); his sister Evelyn (Tom Rock); his brother-in-law Ray Byers; and his grandchildren, Keturah Burkholder and Angelina Burkholder.

He is survived by: his wife Ruby Burkholder (Gayman); his sons, Michael Burkholder (Mary Ann) of Friedens, PA, Luke Burkholder (Heidi) of Fredonia, KY and Joel Burkholder (Bonnie) of Chambersburg; and his sister Janet Byers. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
