He was predeceased by: his son Brian Smith; and his brother Frank Smith. He is survived by: his wife Alice J. Moretti Smith; his daughters, Cynthia J. Waypa (Andy), Doreen Moyer (Gary) and Pamela St. Gordon (late Andrew); his stepchildren, Richard Diebold (Diane), David Diebold (Rebecca) and Donna Jacquemain; and his sister Eileen Schiller. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
