He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Gates and Jenny Elder Gates; his wife Velma Gates; his daughter Tina Wentling; and his siblings, Harry Gates, George Gates and Kathryn Welder.
He is survived by: his children, Larry Huffman (Brenda) of Saxonburg, Cathy Stewart (Matt) of Natrona Heights, Beverly Hawk of Saxonburg, Kelley Carr (Tom) of Boyers and Lisa Padilla of Texas; and his sisters, Nancy McClain of Ohio and Mercedes Perrine of Grove City. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gator's wishes were that his body be donated to science. Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
