He was predeceased by: his parents, John Knappenberger and Ellen Knappenberger (Richards); his wife Retha J. Knappenberger (Patterson); his siblings, John, Clifford Knappenberger and Vivian Mauthe; his son-in-law Jerry W. Appleton; and his wife Jean Watterson Knappenberger (Black).
He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Gibson (Harold) and Susan Appleton; his granddaughters, Dr. Elisabeth Schussler (Charles Kwit), Sarah Ferguson (Schussler), Kathryn Schussler and Thuy (Gibson); his great grandchildren, Laura Lester, Trenton and Grant Ferguson; and his stepchildren, Todd Watterson (Valerie), Carol Boarts (Jeff), Barbara Ellis and Sue Ann Wasser (Greg).
