He was predeceased by: his parents, James R. Tarr and Rachel C. Tarr; and his in-laws, Robert and Mary Knight. He is survived by: his wife Sara "Sally" Tarr; his children, James R. Tarr III (Janet) of Slippery Rock, PA, Jonathan R. Tarr (Cristin) of Littleton, CO and Elizabeth T. Schwinn (Michael) of Medina, OH; his grandchildren, Shannon McHenry (Jonathan) of Allison Park, PA, Andrew, Gavin and Ian Tarr of Littleton, CO; his great grandchild Grayson McHenry; and his brother Robert Tarr of Arizona.
