He was predeceased by: his father Robert Smyers; and his brother Roger Smyers. He is survived by: his mother Barbara Smyers of Homer City; his wife Rebecca Smyers (Jennings); his children, Julia Paynter and James Paynter; his stepchildren, Amber Lewis (Andrew) and Cody Miller (Lon Kanouff); and his siblings, Douglas "Red" Smyers and Brenda Duffy (Robert). He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
