He was predeceased by: his parents, Demeritt Bird and Anna Bird (Wisecup); and his siblings, Robert, Demeritt Jr., Jack, William, James and Shirley Savage.

He is survived by: his spouse Nancy Lorraine Bird (Storm); his daughters, Nancy Carmella (Matthew) of Brodheadsville and Michele Martin; his significant other Michael Grohe of Palmerton; his sister Doris; his friend Markleysburg; his grandchildren, Thomas C. Swink Jr., Miranda T. Carmella, William S. Martin and Lukas C. Carmella; and his pets, Penny and Chewy.
