He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbert "Skinny" Abel and Anna Louise Abel (Nally); his brother Robert Abel (Shirley Abel); and his sister-in-law Theresa Abel. He is survived by: his wife Beverly Ann Abel (Etter); his children, Dr. Ann Spungen (Steven), Dr. Deborah Abel, Cynthia Robinson, Joan Westphal, Stephen Abel (Carla) and Ed Abel (Carol); his grandchildren, Sarah Mycek (William), Miriam Philmon (Gregory), Joanah Bodero (Darwin), Heather Morris (Richard), Paul Scanga, Angela Robinson, Amanda Tolbert (Eric), Nicholas Westphal (Kristy), Andrew Westphal (Brie), Natalie Westphal (Brett), Matthew Westphal, Stephen Abel (Casey Tague), Zachary Abel (Courtney Ashcom), Spencer Abel (Kristen), Blake Abel, Caitlin Bottiger (Nathan) and Nathan Abel; and his siblings, Ronald Abel and Marsha Bridgman (Gene). He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.
