He was predeceased by: his wife Caroline M. Bortz; his parents, Elden R. Bortz and Helen A. Bortz (Dries); and his half-brothers, Elden and Bruce.

He is survived by: his children, Jan Mitchell (Jerry) of Allentown and David Bortz (Fran) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Harley Kunkel), Stephanie (Ben Linchuck) and David M. Bortz (Margaret); and his great grandchild Harley M. Kunkel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Delano's memory.
