He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, N. Grant Swartzwelder and Elvena Swartzwelder (Clark); his wife Barbara J. Swartzwelder (Steach); his children, Roger, Jeff (Lois), Larry, Amanda (Bryan), Charlotte, Brayden and Carleigh; and his brother William Swartzwelder (Anna).
