He was predeceased by: his parents, James Johnston and Violet Johnston (Grimes); his wife Barbara G. Johnston; and his children, Darlene Ferro and Melvin R. "Rick" Johnston Jr..
He is survived by: his daughter Betty Hendryx; his close friend Carol Collins; his grandchildren, Christopher Johnston, Michael Johnston, Brandon Nye (Brandon), Jeremiah Himes, Joshua Himes (Denette), Joanna Hendryx and Jennifer Henry; his sisters, Jean Perry and Christine Bailey; and also Pat Johnston.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 11th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Wednesday, February 12th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. (33 South Ave, Bradford, PA 16701). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 at the 13th Funeral Home South Ave.
