He was predeceased by: his parents, John Deist and Frances Deist (Janeczek); his wife Clara L. "Sue" Deist (Russell); and his siblings, John, Bill, Bob, Glen, Dorothy, Trudy and Helen.
He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy (Kenneth Merrill), Gray and Christine (Ronald Infantino); his grandchildren, Ken Merrill, Jr. and Crystal Abell; his great grandchildren, Madison, Conner and Chloe; and his sister Peggy Hayes.
