He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Mako and Ethel Mae Mako (Moore); and his brother Albert. He is survived by: his brother Bruce Mako; his wife Dorothy E. Mako (Webster); his sons, Robert S. Mako, Jr. and Brad W. Mako; and his grandchildren, Robert Mako III, Alix Mako, Kory Mako, Jaxon Mako, Landan Blose and Aiden Blose.
