Jack Muir Obituary

Jack Muir, son, brother, friend, athlete, scout, actor, brother-in-law, scholar, soldier, husband, repo man, salesman, father, appraiser, scoutmaster, tradesman, barber, sailor, volunteer, naturalist, singer, repairman, gamer and tinkerer passed away in Blue Bell, PA on Sunday, September 22, 2024, after 87 years of life.

Jack was born March 9, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA to John and Celinda Muir and is survived by his siblings: Charley Muir, David Muir, Jimmy Muir, Janet Muir-Garrity and Mike Kane. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gavin, Gavin's wife Joyce, their son Geoffrey and Jack's nephew John Kane.

Jack married the love of his life, Anne Schmid Muir. This marriage has lasted 60 years (59.83 years) and they were blessed with five children: Lisa Muir-Jablonski (Ron), J. Gavin Muir (Julie), Kate Muir Ishee (Wes), Peter Muir and Gene Lee (Jason). Jack and Anne were thrilled to welcome six grandchildren: Will and Riley Jablonski, Molly and Paige Muir, Wyatt and Ryder Ishee.

Jack loved his family very much and thrived on time spent with them. All who came to know him well knew that he had a second love too–Scouting.

The Boy Scout Law includes 12 principles that can shape a person's life. A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

Jack was a model of these 12 principles to his wife, children, extended family, community members, and fellow scouts–he instilled the principles in us and expected them from us too.

Trustworthy: He kept his word.

Loyal: He was there for those who mattered in his life.

Helpful: He looked for more ways to contribute everyday.

Friendly: He put those around him at ease and took an interest in others.

Courteous: He demonstrated respect to others, said please and thank you and acknowledged the contributions of others.

Kind: He tried to understand the feelings of others, discovered and treated people the way they wanted to be treated.

Obedient: He thoughtfully did what he was told.

Cheerful: He remained positive at all times, even the difficult ones.

Thrifty: He didn't waste needlessly, he was recycling long before it was fashionable and planned for the future (especially with Anne's help).

Brave: He did the right thing despite being afraid, stood up for himself and others and did what scared him.

Clean: He was always well-groomed and left any place better than when he found it and everything had its place–until someone else moved it.

Reverent: He believed in God, he was a devout Catholic and respected the beliefs of others.

Everything in the universe is uncertain. Let Jack's life be a lesson to leave this world a better place by deepening your relationships and showing gratitude through each day of your life.

On Monday, September 30, 2024. a Celebration of Life will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Church (428 Main Street, North Wales, PA 19454). Family and Friends will be received at 10am and Mass will commence at 11am. Interment will be private.

Eileen Brett wrote a sympathy message

“Dear Anne and Family, I just heard about Jack’s passing and we are very sorry for your loss. We remember Jack as a great guy, full of passion for life and service. He was a wonderful Scout Master. He taught the boys so much. Our son, Brendan still says he was the Best! We have many fond memories of those times at Epiphany. Thank you! May your hearts be lightened by your memories and the life he lived so well. Fondly, Kevin and Eileen Brett”
