He was predeceased by: his father Dennis F. Mertz; and his stepmother Helen Mertz (Reeves). He is survived by: his close friend Cimmie Marie Varano; his children, Michael John Mertz (Madeline Wilson) of Bloomsburg and Shelley Ann Mint (Joseph Mint) of Barton, NY.; his grandchildren, Griffin Mertz, Colin Mertz, Samantha Wood, Benjamin Wood, Joanna Wood, Dominic Wood, Eve Wood, Emmett Wood, Sara Prough and Caden Mint; and his siblings-in-law, Frank Varano (Virginia), Jackie Adzema (Joseph Kern), Josephine Varano and Roseanne Kobilis (Edward).
