He was predeceased by: his parents, Allan Oertel and Dolly Oertel; and his close friend Kathy Joller. He is survived by: his siblings, Marilyn Brant (Bob) and Lil Markle (Ron); his friend Pete; his daughter Phyllis Diehl (Mike); and also, Pete, Candy, Tom Venezia, John, Kristine, Alex and Emily Kubic.

“January 26, 2023 Terry Berrier wrote a sympathy message “After over 50 years apart, I was fortunate enough to get reacquainted with Wayne (Sporty/Joe) last year and we got to spend some time together and I really enjoyed that, so did he. I was so hoping that he would be able to come back so we could go fishing again. Even though we were apart for so long, we were still friends and often thought of each other. I miss him. This man went through a lot in his lifetime, he deserves some peace now.”
