He is survived by: his wife Sue Ann Markel (Gibbons); his sons, Jeffrey Markel of Verona, VA and John Markel, Jr. (Satoko) of San Diego, CA; his grandchildren, Dustin Markel and Kyle Markel; and his sister Elizabeth Fedder (Ken) of Indiana.
