He was predeceased by: his parents, Morris "Tuck" and Iola Shimmel (Knepp); his spouse A. Maxine Stevens Shimmel (Smeal); and his children, Mitchel R. Shimmel and Cindy M. Socie.
He is survived by: his children, Patty Croft (Larry) of West Decatur, PA, Brenda Hampton (Roy) of West Decatur, PA and Kevin L. Shimmel (Traci) of State College, PA; his stepson Richard Stevens, Jr. (Mary Jayne) of Johnson City, TN; his siblings, Lois Jones of Philipsburg, PA, Gail Shimmel of Osceola Mills, PA, Diane Twist (William) of Philipsburg, PA and William Shimmel (Sandy) of Clearfield, PA.; and his grandchildren, Tia Wisor, Jason Socie, Lyndsay Westwood, Brittany Humes and Belinda Croft. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
