He was predeceased by: his parents, William Newman and Helen Newman; and his siblings, Ann Smith, William "Bill" Newman, Mary Meehan and John "Jack" Newman.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Bies Newman; his children, Paul (Beth), Anne (Frank Kirkwood), Patricia Hahn (Steve), John (Sheri), James (Vanessa), Anthony (Linda), Frances Herfurth (Tom), Mary Hardin (Brandon), Kathryn Mallison (Eric) and Michael (Betsy); and his foster daughter Nancy Kirkwood. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
