He is survived by: his children, Larry A. Mertz, Jr., Heidi Mertz, Stefanie Mertz and Michael Mertz (Kelsey Bowers); his grandson Ethan Opiela; his sister Patricia Lizak (Mertz); his nephews, Eric Lizak (Ashlee) and Jeffrey Lizak; his niece Heather Wagner (Lizak); and his cousins, Roland "Buddy" Mertz (Kathy), Sandra (Mertz) and Young (Bert).

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the David Henney Funeral Home (6364 Library Rd, South Park Township, PA 15129). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Hillview Cemetery.
