He was predeceased by: his father Hartlein; his wife Susan Jean Lane (Schaefer); his stepfather William Tuttle; and his siblings-in-law, William Slough and Shirley Slough Goettel.
He is survived by: his mother Dorothy Tuttle of Ohiopyle; his children, Robert Schaeffer (Kelly) and Stephanie Farrier (Kevin); his grandchildren, Wyatt Vincent Schaeffer, Hunter Douglas Schaeffer, Brayden Robert Schaeffer and Makenzie Rae Farrier; and his siblings, William Lane of Confluence, Elizabeth Ferri (Jeffrey) of Indian Trail, NC, Frederick Lane (Kimberly) of Greenville, SC, Cynthia Hinzy (Jackie) of Confluence and Lori Miller (Stephen) of Ohiopyle. He is also survived by one niece and four nephews.
