He was predeceased by: his parents, Rolland Hess and Dartha Hess (Hough); his wife Linda Kishbaugh; his daughter Tammy Karns; his grandson Donnie Karns; and his siblings, Rodney, David Hess, Janet Charles Hess and Ellen Fox.
He is survived by: his children, Scott Hess (Dawn) of Berwick and Donna (Richard Welsh) of Bloomsburg; his grandchildren, Douglas Karns, Jr., Denise Karns, Brandon Welsh (Ashley), Steven Welsh (Megan), Ashley Welliver (Logan), Brittany Gensel and Dakota Gensel; his great grandchildren, Alyssa Fenstemaker, Haily Fenstemaker, Makayla Fenstemaker, Tierney Karns, Lilyan Karns, Hope Taylor, Evan Boyer, Jocelyn Boyer, Sebastian Welsh, Gabrielle Welsh and Bentley Welsh; and his brother Howard Hess (Marilyn) of Summerhill.
