He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Hines and Mildred Miller Hines; his sister Beverly Cruse; and his grandson Colin Hines. He is survived by: his wife Constance "Connie" Rolley (Hines); his children, Kimberly Van Buskirk (David) of State College and Brett J. Hines (Larinda Zeien) of Marion, IA; his grandchildren, Andy Van Buskirk, John Van Buskirk and Serena Hines; and his great grandchildren, Robert "Bo" Van Buskirk and Atlas Joy Van Buskirk.
