He is survived by: his wife Janice Coutant (McCreary); his children, Connie Diehl, Christopher Coutant, Cathy Gessert and N. James Coutant; and his sisters, Jane, Betsy and Sandra. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
